Client: Museo della Permanente
The retrospective dedicated to Hans Feurer, presented at Palazzo della Permanente in Milan in September 2014, was curated and designed by LDF Studio. The project combined curatorial direction with the design of the exhibit layout and its graphic system. From the outset, LDF worked closely on the selection of over sixty photographs, defining a narrative arc that balanced iconic works, such as the 1974 Pirelli Calendar and the Kenzo campaign, with lesser-known images, offering a comprehensive portrait of Feurer’s career.
This curatorial vision was translated into a carefully constructed exhibition design, where the spatial layout, scale of prints, and rhythm of the sequence invited visitors to immerse themselves in Feurer’s world.
Equally central was the graphic design direction, which established a bold typographic identity. LDF conceived large-scale title walls, signage, and captions, all characterized by a minimal, high-impact use of type and space.
This visual language extended to all communication assts: posters, banners, invitations, and promotional materials ensuring consistency between the gallery experience and its public presence in the city.
The studio also designed the exhibition catalogue, conceived as both a documentation and an extension of the show. Through precise typographic systems and editorial structure, the catalogue mirrored the spatial rhythm of the exhibition while framing Feurer’s images in a timeless, rigorous way. By integrating curatorial insight with exhibition and graphic design, LDF Studio created a holistic project where content and form reinforced one another, allowing Hans Feurer’s photography to be experienced not only as fashion imagery but as cultural history.
